Books, a building and a boat

So I made this painting for my father whose birthday is today. I'm going to give it to him on tuesday. I really don't know what to think of it.

Will he like it, do I like it, is it complete crap? I usually don't have this kind of problems with my drawings. So any feedback will be welcome, critics included!

Easier, for me : books! On the left is a book I'm currently reading, by prolific french author Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. He imagines what could have happened if Hitler had not been refused the entry of art school in 1908.

It's a fascinating read, I'm devouring it very fast! On the right is a book by Maeve Binchy who is not at all well known in France, so I tried this at random when I found it in English in the library. It's awesome. I read it too fast, though I didn't want it to end! I'll look for her other books, next time!

And this is what I see from my balcony. I'll be moving in one month and 20 days, not one day too soon. I hate the place I live in now with a passion. It's noisy, my neighbours love to cook and burn garlic since 9 am, I can't sleep, can't rest, can't not hear them all day and night long. I'm glad to go to work so I don't have to hear them for a few hours a day.

It doesn't seem that horrible, in drawing. Well, it is. Luckily, it won't be very long now until I move out.

It's my dad's birthday today, and also ten years after for New York, so I'm thinking about all those people who die each year because of terrorism, stupid, blind hate, not only in New York, but all over the world.

I like the boat, and if my daughter would have made it for me, I would like it even more. I like the colors. There is not a lot of detail in the boats, which makes it not only a painting of a boat, but also a composition of colours.

About the Hitler book: one of my favorite books is '1933' it is non fiction written as if it is fiction, about the year Hitler came into power. The author is Metcalfe

Your father will love the painting - how wonderful to have something painted for you, especially by your daughter! I hope you enjoy a more peaceful life at your new home - won't be long now ...

I like the painting. It's a dark broody sky but the sun breaks through and shines on his boat!

I hope you find the peace and quiet and a real lack of garlic in your new home! Sometimes neighbors can really make you crazy.

Your father will love it besides being a really beautiful painting...it's from you. I love the brushstrokes and the colors.

Maeve Binchy! You are in for a treat! Best books: The Glass Lake, Evening Class, Scarlet Feather, Firefly Summer, Echoes. My favorite is Scarlet Feather. If you like these, do you know Rosamund Pilcher? Not her short little romances (they are formulaic, only okay), but her long books: Coming Home, The Shell Seekers (includes a lot about painting in Cornwall), September, Winter Solstice. Nice rendition of the Tara Road cover--I know that cover!

I am pretty sure he'll love it! =) No doubt about that... and love your book drawings as always, really nice sketch of the building too. I am happy that you'll be moving away from noisy neighborhood too...I did the same thing :) Hopefully everything will go smoothly.
I wish I was drawing a Peugeot, a Renault or a Citroen, but I have never owned one of those... =)

A great present for your Dad, of course he will like it...you painted it for him!
I hope you find better neighbours in your new place...I solved that problem by moving to an isolated place with NO neighbours!

He will love it! I love the colors and the stormy feel of it. I hope your days pass quickly while you are still in this apartment and hopefully you will have better luck with the next neighbors!

Your painting is very powerful and intens, I think your Dad will treasure it. I love Maeve Binchy, I think Tara Road was one of my very first 'Binchy' reads. Enjoy!

The painting is wonderful! I am sure your dad was pleased. I read something by Maeve Binchy several years ago that I seem to recall enjoying. I'll have to look for this one now. And good luck with your move! It sounds like a good thing for you.
